Holidaymakers can look forward to a Summer Specials train service to Skegness, starting later this month. East Midlands Railways have announced 'Intercity style' trains with more luggage space for passengers travelling to the seaside town.
The Class 180 trains are typically used on EMR Intercity services to and from London St Pancras International. They will begin operating on Saturday, July 23, but will begin at Derby, as opposed to Nottingham.
The Summer Specials service will run through to September 10 at the following times:
- 07.58 Derby - Skegness
- 09.23 Derby - Skegness
- 11.42 Skegness - Derby
- 13.44 Skegness - Derby

The usual Class 156 train services with less luggage space - removed last year due to low winter demand - are also running direct to and from Nottingham:
- 08.46 Nottingham – Skegness
- 11.14 Skegness – Nottingham
- 13.46 Nottingham – Skegness
- 16.14 Skegness – Nottingham
Neil Grabham, Customer Services Director for East Midlands Railway, said: “Skegness remains a popular destination for families and day trippers who want some fun at the seaside. The Class 180 Intercity style trains will offer customers more luggage room, while the increase of the summer services will also provide people more options of when to travel.
"Customers should also keep an eye out for some special treats we have organised for families travelling on this route this summer."
