Summer has officially arrived however, with the hot weather you often need to open your windows meaning pesky flies come indoors.
Thankfully, there is a simple solution to this annoying problem and it won’t cost you a fortune.
One reporter at RSVP Live tried the viral cotton wool hack to keep flies out of your house and said it worked instantly.

All you need is a cotton wool ball and a scent that the insects don't like such as one of the following plant leaves or oil.
A popular choice would be to use peppermint, as it works very effectively at repelling insects.
With this, you can choose to grind up peppermint leaves and add them to small pouches around your house. Not only can you leave them in your kitchen, by windows or doors, but you can also place them around your bedroom.
This will give your home a lovely smell, while directly driving away any insects.
However, if you want to instantly remove any flies from your house, it would be better to use a stronger peppermint scent, such as peppermint oil.
Add some to a cotton wool ball and leave them around entry points in your house. If you experience a couple of flies in your home, a few daps of the oil will do.
However, if the problem is more severe, you can always soak the cotton wool ball in the oil.
Similarly, pine oil and lavender work just as well. People tend to use lavender spray around their house to repel flies and other insects, but you can also use a cotton wool ball, dulite it with water in a bowl or button and or use dried lavender leaves.
If you happen to own a basil plant, it is also another effective option. Gardeners are known for planting basil around flowers and other plants to prevent flies from attacking and damaging their gardens, fruit and vegetables.
You can find basil as an essential oil or use leaves from the plant, however, the latter tends to work much slower than stronger oils.
