
When Joan and George Foster left England in 1955 with their two children, a crate of clothes, a knitting machine, two bicycles and a small amount of cash they were branded “10 Pound Poms”.
Leaving behind their Suffolk life in post-war Britain, it was a wild journey via the Suez Canal and Port Said aboard the former troop ship, the MV Georgic.
