The Jets get their offensive tackle addition in this draft by adding Carter Warren, offensive tackle from Pittsburgh, at No. 120. Warren is the second offensive lineman taken by the Jets in this draft, along with Wisconsin center Joe Tippmann at No. 43.
Carter is already going to be a local fan favorite. He is from Paterson, New Jersey, which is just 20 minutes from MetLife Stadium, and grew up as a Jets fan. He brings a good frame to the Jets’ offensive line. He measured 6-foot-5 and 316 pounds at his pro day. He’ll start as a solid depth swing tackle for the Jets with potential to become a starter down the line.
Warren started all but one game he played in. He missed the final nine games of last season with a knee injury but in total started 39 games. After his selection by the Jets, Warren said he is fully recovered from that knee injury.
Warren is a physical player and a good pass blocker. One of his weaknesses is the number of penalties he accumulated over his college career (11 penalties, including eight false starts, via Dane Brugler of The Athletic). He’s also already 24 years old.
Still, Warren has the tools to develop into a potential starter and be a solid backup early. It’s possible he competes at right tackle as a rookie, but he’ll likely be below Mekhi Becton and Max Mitchell to begin. But there is some potential here with his frame and ability, along with his physicality. This is a solid pick for the Jets.
