It’s no secret that the Baltimore Ravens value special teams. They’ve won multiple games due to the contributions of that unit, including from players such as Matt Stover, Justin Tucker, and others. However, Sam Koch has been a staple in Baltimore for decades, also making multiple winning plays.
With how good Koch has been and continues to be, many didn’t expect the Ravens to select a punter during the 2022 draft, despite some of the talent of the prospects. However, they did just that, selecting Penn State punter Jordan Stout at No. 130 overall. He has a powerful leg and has a knack for placing the ball inside of the opponents’ 20 or even 10 yard lines, making him one of the best (if not the best) punter in the 2022 class.
The selection of Stout makes the future of Koch look murky at best. He’s been one of the staples of the Ravens over the course of his career, but moving on would save the team around $2.1 million in much needed cap space. Stout is clearly future at the position, and it will be interesting to see what it means for Koch.
