The Baltimore Ravens made another splash in the 2022 NFL draft, this time selecting edge rusher David Ojabo out of the University of Michigan with the No. 45 overall selection. He’s a player that was getting first-round buzz before suffering a torn achilles during his Pro Day, which made him fall to the second round.
In 2021, Ojabo burst onto the scene, totaling 36 total tackles including 12 for loss, 11 sacks, and five forced fumbles. He hasn’t been playing football for long, so he still is just scratching the surface of his potential, which is an enticing thought considering how dominant he was last year for the Wolverines’ defense.
There are also a few other storylines surrounding Ojabo, as he played under new Baltimore defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald when Macdonald was the defensive coordinator at Michigan. Ojabo also played high school football with current Ravens outside linebacker Odafe Oweh.
The pick of Ojabo is one that will require a bit of patience as he recovers from his injury. However, he’s a player that was worth the risk of selecting him in the second round, and if fully healthy he could form a great pass rushing duo with Oweh for years to come.
