Signs say 'Instagrammable' Liverpool restaurant Boujee is 'closed for business'

Signs have been placed outside a venue dubbed Liverpool's 'most instagrammable' restaurant, stating that it is 'closed for business.'

The restaurant opened in December 2020. Set across two floors and covering around 9,600 sq ft, the restaurant features a giant candy area, themed ‘pool party’ and ‘Alice in Boujeeland’ areas. The Boujee business also has sites in Manchester and Chester and counts Real Housewives of Cheshire star Lystra Adams as a director.

Messages have now been placed in the restaurant's windows and on boards outside which state: "Boujee is closed for business.' Another message adds that the closure is 'through no fault of Liverpool One.'

The ECHO has previously reported on problems at Boujee in Liverpool. Early in July we covered how staff had not been paid their full wages as the business was struggling with cashflow problems. Some staff members said they had received just 40% of their pay on a recent pay date.

Others said they had not been paid their full service charges and some had walked out of shifts over the problems. At the time, a spokesperson for the company said it had experienced "unexpected costs" which created temporary cash flow constraints for the business.

Boujee said it was 'confident' that it could resume business, but the signs placed outside it now indicate the Liverpool site has closed. Boujee's Instagram page no longer lists Liverpool as one of its sites, with only Manchester and Chester remaining.

The ECHO has seen a message sent to staff members at the Liverpool branch from the company's directors. The note states: "As you are aware the business was closed in the first half of July. As a result of this it is with regret that as a business we are no longer able to trade, therefore the payment for your wages will be spread across a four-week period."

The message adds the business will 'need to draw upon the trade' of its Manchester and Chester sites in order to pay remaining staff wages in full. The directors said these payments will be made on August 1 and 22. The note adds: "We very much appreciate your patience for what has been a very difficult time for all of us."

Boujee has been contacted for a response.
