Instagram down as users receive 'account suspended' messages and are left unable to log in

Instagram is suffering from technical issues for the second time in a matter of days, with thousands of users reporting the same issue with their account.

Many people have reported that they have attempted to log into their accounts today (Monday, 31 October) only to receive a pop-up message informing them that their account has been 'suspended'. This comes just three days after the social media platform suffered a worldwide outage along with fellow Meta companies Facebook and WhatsApp.

As reported by The Mirror, the message that users have been presented with when attempting to log in reads: "We suspended your account on 31 October 2022. There are 30 days remaining to disagree with this decision."

The number of users reporting issues with Instagram has quickly shot up into the thousands since around 12:40pm today, according to DownDetector. Within the past hour hundreds of people have taken to the online platform, which provides real-time updates on the status of various websites, to share that they are all experiencing the same problem.

"Tried to open the app just now and it tells me my account is suspended for 30 days?" one person wrote.

Another added: "My account has been suspended without reason! I can't log in or anything. Any advice?"

"My account has been suspended too it's got years of pictured of my babies on there I am devastated as some one them I haven't got on my phone," another user posted. "I really hope they resolve this as I'm devastated. I feel for everyone who is going through the same issue as myself."

However, the outage does not seem to be affecting all Instagram users. Those who have received the suspension message have reported that verifying their email and phone number has appeared to make no difference, and some have said that their app has glitched and left them with a black screen and loading icon.

The official Instagram Comms Twitter account wrote: "We're aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We're looking into it and apologise for the inconvenience."

It is not yet known what is causing the issue, or how long it will take to fix. The Mirror has approached Meta for comment.
