If the Glastonbury 2023 line-up doesn’t meet your music expectations, don’t worry — a new app called Instafest may just be the ticket.
The free app creates a music festival line-up and poster based on your Spotify listening habits.
To generate your line-up, you need only to sign in to your Spotify account. You can customise your headliners based on your listening habits of the last four weeks, six months, or all time, and select your festival poster style from options including Malibu Sunrise, LA Twighlight, or Mojave Dusk.
The app also calculates what it calls a “Basic Score’’ from your listening habits: the lower the score, the more niche your music festival.
Once the poster is generated, you can then choose to rename your festival and hide or show your username and Basic Score.
If you want to remove support for the app, you can follow the guide to revoke its access.
The app’s creator Anshay Saboo explained to TechCrunch how he got the idea for the app.
“I had the idea when I was in bed scrolling through TikTok one day,” he said. “I saw people were posting videos from Coachella and I started thinking about how I would set the Coachella line-up if I could pick the artists.
“The thought process led to me thinking about generating a music festival graphic using a Spotify integration, and I built off from there.”
Mr Saboo is already working on adding support for music streaming services such as YouTube Music, Deezer, and Amazon Music.
He’s also focused on maintaining the app and adding more integration to help to make sharing users’ festival lineups fun. He said that while it was too early to discuss his long-term plans, he was exploring the prospect of making a music-based social network around festival graphics generation.
Within just hours of its launch, Instafest had become a popular talking point on social media. Many people posted their lineups to show off their musical tastes.
One person said the app had fuelled hopes that the festivals it generated could actually happen: “Not me thinking this Instafest thing was an actual festival and they just had different artists for different locations omfg.”

However, some people thought that Instafest was a bad omen for their forthcoming Spotify Wrapped. One person said: “Instafest made me realize my Spotify wrapped is going to be a disaster. I’m going to log off for a month and rethink my musical choices.”

The app’s launch comes just days before Spotify releases its Wrapped for users. This shows the customised listening habits across music and podcasts for each user.
