'Inspirational headteacher' died a year after seeing doctor thinking she had just pulled a muscle

The husband of a popular head teacher who died a year after visiting her doctor with what she thought was a pulled muscle has paid tribute to her. Ros Atkins, 43, died on October 3, 2022, one year after being diagnosed with stage four terminal bowel cancer.

The Weston Primary School headteacher, from Liverpool, was on holiday with her husband John and their daughter Maggie, then six, in Scotland when she first started experiencing pain in the right side of her body which felt like a stitch.

Ros said she thought she might have pulled a muscle while sleeping in different hotel beds at the time, but when the pain got worse on returning home she booked an appointment to see her GP.
