Insomniac Reveals 'Marvel's Wolverine' Is Different From 'Spider-Man' Games—But How?

Insomniac Games recently revealed the key differences between its upcoming "Marvel's Wolverine" game from the "Marvel's Spider-Man" franchise.

Insomniac Reveals 'Marvel's Wolverine' Difference From 'Spider-Man'

Insomniac Games' creative director Marcus Smith and game director Mike Daly recently sat down with IGN to discuss the upcoming "Marvel's Wolverine."

At one point in the interview, the executives were asked about how much "Marvel's Wolverine" differs from the existing comic book-inspired titles from Insomniac Games, particularly the "Marvel's Spider-Man" franchise.

Daly claimed that the game differs based on the personality and character of these heroes, especially as Logan or Wolverine is best known for being extreme and violent in the comics, whereas Spider-Man avoids lethal force.

The gameplay trailer confirmed that "Marvel's Wolverine" will not shy away from blood, the use of adamantium claws, and the kind of visceral damage that comes with them.

What Separates "Marvel's Wolverine" from Spider-Man

However, on a deeper note, it is not only the violence that separates "Marvel's Wolverine" from the "Marvel's Spider-Man" franchise, according to Daly.

One of the main differences is that Peter Parker and Miles Morales' stories focus more on delivering an open-world sandbox of New York City in the game. Here, players have been given the chance to explore and protect the city in various titles.

Daly said that "Marvel's Wolverine" will focus on a more "linear nature" game and avoid the similar sandbox-type experience in Logan's story. The upcoming game will focus more on the narrative, as well as a gripping "comic book-style pacing."

Logan is more of a lone wolf and wanderer, even in his "X-Men" days in the comics, as he comes and goes as he pleases. Spider-Man's different iterations, on the other hand, are rooted in protecting New York as the "friendly neighborhood" icon.

Despite it being a linear game featuring a traditional story-based single-player RPG, Insomniac said that there is a lot to look forward to in its gameplay, especially as players progress and explore more of the story.

There are exciting twists and pace changes throughout the game for players to discover, explore, and navigate.

"Marvel's Wolverine" will deliver its new change of pace from Insomniac's developments this September 15. The game will be released exclusively on the PS5.
