Insomniac dashes Marvel's Wolverine hopes, says more info is coming in spring despite Sony's State of Play happening this week

Marvel's Wolverine.

Insomniac has seemingly squashed hopes of Marvel's Wolverine appearing in this week's State of Play, saying we won't learn anything about the game until spring 2026.

Marvel's Wolverine seems like PlayStation's big game for 2026. I mean, there's Marathon, but from Sony's multiplayer track record, that may not last the year. After a brief teaser in 2021, we finally got a full, blood-soaked reveal last September, with the promise of a 2026 release date. And after missing The Game Awards, all eyes are on this week's PlayStation State of Play to see if the short king would return. But it sounds like he's staying in hiding just a bit longer.

Last night, almost as if it was to prepare players for the showcase, Insomniac posted a gif of Logan stabbing people with his knife hands (who really didn't look like they needed much more stabbing). And when a user responded "WHEN MORE INFO?" Insomniac crushed the hearts and souls of many by responding with a simple "Spring 2026."

Wolverine is from Canada, being the most important Canadian alongside Bret 'The Hitman' Hart. And according to the Canadian government website, spring starts on March 20th at 2:45pm UTC (so 9:45am ET | 6:45am PT). So if Sony announces a showcase on March 20th at 2pm UTC, you know what's going to close the show. Or we could see the announcement of a Wolverine-specific State of Play, like Sony did with Ghost of Yotei last year.

I often think it's a good idea to listen to developers when they say, "Hey, don't expect news in this showcase" (unless they're the Resident Evil developers during a showcase), but I mean… It's not like they would ruin the surprise. Plus, I'm Scottish, and the Celtic calendar has spring starting in February, so maybe it'll appear to any Celts in the audience. Or maybe I'm just hoping too much for something that probably won't happen.

With Wolverine set to elevate superhero gaming in 2026, here's the four features I want the most, and four I'm desperate to avoid
