Insomniac Games has confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will run at 60 frames per second with ray tracing enabled by default in the Performance Mode of the base PS5.
The news comes from Aug. 13 hands-on previews and an interview with IGN, where the devs broke down how the team focused on building the upcoming game around a smooth and responsive combat experience right from the start.
Jess Reiner-Reed, senior project director, said, “From early on in development, we knew we wanted to make this 60 FPS, working on the base PS5 in performance mode. And we’ve definitely been able to accomplish that. The game feels super smooth.”
Mike Fitzgerald, Insomniac’s head of technology, said, “This is going to be a 60 frames per second game with ray tracing as the PS5 should have. We’re going to build the game around this and towards this.’ And it’s the default mode for the first time for us in one of our games. It’s important for the presentation.”

Marvel’s Wolverine combat is built for fast and aggressive play
Hands-on impressions highlight that Wolverine’s combat is all about speed and aggression, which makes the 60FPS target even more important. Basic attacks use Logan’s claws alongside powerful kicks and parries, while special abilities such as Tornado Spin and Knee Breaker help players close gaps and control crowds.
Fitzgerald added, “We’ve always had these fidelity and performance modes, and then we always sort of last minute get the performance mode with ray tracing and like, ‘But this is pretty good…’ And so for this game from the start, we said, ‘You know what? We know we’re confident we can ship this now.”

Enemies are aggressive in the game, pushing players to stay on the move, manage Rage, and make smart use of mobility. Logan leaping between enemies to quickly close distance should feel much better at 60 frames per second.
While Insomniac is known for the dense cityscapes of its Spider-Man games, Wolverine shifts the focus to different kinds of spaces. The studio has invested heavily in foliage, jungle tech, and wind-reactive vegetation for wilderness areas like Canada, while city locations such as Madripoor lean into neon-soaked markets and streets.
