Insider spills the beans on what takeaway the Queen sends out staff to get for her

Fancy a right royal feed-up? Then grab yourself some fish and chips.

A source close to the Queen has revealed that, when staying at her Scottish retreat Balmoral, she sends a flunky to the chippy. One of the richest women in the world settles for a tenner's worth of takeaway.

A source told the Mirror: “She occasionally treats herself to fish and chips when at Balmoral. A footman is despatched to get it from the local town of Ballater.”

Back in England, however, the monarch is said to prefer a home-cooked version of the dish. Darren McGrady, former chef to the Queen, said instead of cooking the fish by coating it in batter and deep-frying in lard or oil, Her Majesty likes it coated in breadcrumbs and baked.

Darren served as the Queen’s personal chef at Buckingham Palace between the 1980s to the 1990s. He recalls many quirks about the royal pallet.

Chatting on his YouTube channel about her tastes, he said: "Fish fried in all that crispy rich batter was a little bit too much for her, she preferred a more refined fish and chips." He also told The Telegraph she cannot be described as a “foodie”, unlike her late husband Prince Phillip, who "loves to eat and would stand and talk food all day".

When she is travelling the Queen is known to eat Dundee cake and be particular about the type of water she drinks. She often requests Malvern water for her cup of tea.
