Sunderland have wasted no time in addressing problem areas in the January transfer window.
Lee Johnson's side have already completed the signings of Trai Hume, Danny Batth and Patrick Roberts, with Tottenham Hotspur's young winger Jack Clarke the latest name being linked with the Wearsiders.
Clarke burst onto the scene at Elland Road under the tutorage of Marcelo Bielsa, before moving to White Hart Lane for £10million back in 2019.
The young winger is yet to break into the first team set-up at Spurs, but spent the second-half of last season on loan with Championship side Stoke.
While a deal is yet to be officially confirmed, the move could be a shrewd bit of business for the Black Cats.
We spoke with LeedsLive's Joe Mewis to find out more about the 21-year-old:
What type of player is he?
Joe Mewis: "Clarke broke into the Leeds first-team picture at the age of 17 as an exciting right winger.
"Pacey, not afraid to take players on and with a couple of eye-catching goals and assists during his 25 appearances during the 2018-19 season hinted a real promise."
He was highly thought of at Leeds, was it a surprise when he moved on?
JM: "Clarke had been turning heads in the Thorp Arch academy set-up for some time before he broke through and his initial performances suggested that he had the potential to be a Premier League player and alerted top-flight teams.
"Missing out on promotion in the 2019 play-offs meant that it was somewhat inevitable that the circling vultures would make a move, as Leeds' financial model in the Championship meant that players had to be sold each summer in order to keep the wheels turning."
Are you shocked by how things haven't quite worked out at Tottenham?
JM: "When you saw Clarke turn in the kind of devastating displays like he did against Derby in January 2019 (a performance that was overshadowed by the infamous 'spygate' scandal which broke that day), he looked very much like a top-flight player in waiting, so to see him linked with a League One move three years later is somewhat surprising.
"Given Bielsa's record for developing young players, you can't help but wonder what could have been, had he remained in West Yorkshire.
"But on recent evidence, the £10m banked by Leeds United for his sale to Spurs looks to be very good business."
How do you think he'll fare at Sunderland?
JM: "Clarke only turned 21 two months ago, so he still very much has time on his side.
"He's at that stage now where regular senior football is a must and Sunderland's style of play seems a good fit to his attributes.
"If he can apply himself and get off to a good start, it would be a signing that could pay dividends comes the end of the campaign."
