Inside the 'world's best hotel' with a private beach, jungle villas and friendly sloths

Tulemar Resort in Costa Rica has been named the world's best hotel for 2022 by Tripadvisor - and it's not difficult to see why.

Located in the heart of Manuel Antonio National Park, one of Costa Rica's most incredible places, the resort is surrounded by lush green rainforest, with rooms that look out to the jungle as well as the picture-perfect ocean views.

It's an idyllic getaway, the kind where there are suites of dreams, four huge pools, a private beach, on-site restaurants and even visits from the wildlife including monkeys, parrots and sloths.

The 33-acre resort boasts some pretty swish private bungalows and villas for guests to choose from too.

We're talking perks like private plunge pools with ocean views, outdoor rain showers, gorgeous views of the surrounding landscape, huge beds and top notch service (some of the villas even give you access to a personal concierge service to help you plan plenty of adventures).

There are only a handful of villas and bungalows on offer, so guests never have to fight for poolside space or face hefty queues at the bar or restaurant.

Explorers can also book onto heaps of guided walks and hikes through the rainforest, or sample some of local cuisine at the 15 restaurants that are easily reached from this remote resort.

Tulemar has been proving such a hit with guests that it's been named the world's best hotel in Tripadvisor's Travellers' Choice Awards for 2022, which determines winners based on both the quality and quantity of reviews from holidaymakers.

Judging by the glowing reviews left on its Tripadvisor listing, it's not surprising to see why the resort picked up the accolade.

One holidaymaker said it had been the "best experience of my life" while another praised the "great staff onsite and concierge" who helped organise private transfers, national park tours and even zipline experiences.

As for the villas? One guest wrote of their stay: "The views from Villa Cielito are amazing! The villa was beautiful! The outdoor shower was heaven! I sat on the deck every morning to be entertained by all the wildlife! The private beach was incredible! I can go on and on. My only complaint was that I wish we could have stayed longer!"

The incredible location has also been a hit. One intrepid explorer wrote: "We loved everything about it from seeing the animals around to the private beach, the lovely room service menu and even the tropical rain. Don’t think about it too much, staying here will be the highlight of your trip."

At the time of writing, Costa Rica doesn't have any Covid travel rules in place for holidaymakers. However, rules can change quickly due to the nature of the pandemic so always check the Foreign Office's latest Costa Rica travel advice before booking or going on a trip.
