A new underground bar is coming to Cardiff and promises an "escape from the mundane". The Underdog is from the creators of gaming bar Kongs on St Mary Street. There will be neon lighting, pool tables, a range of local beers, and cocktails to enjoy.
The music will be '90s house, hip hop, disco, funk, and more and you can also grab food while there as The Underdog has partnered up with West Pizza, offering pizza by the slice or an 18" dish.
The bar will be on Guildhall Place and will have dusky lighting, neon lights, crescent shapes, and prototypical carpet nodding to '80s nostalgia, creating an intimate and quirky atmosphere.

First-look pictures of the bar show it is bathed in red and green lighting, round white lights, and a leather interior. The Underdog will open on Wednesday, May, 18 for a soft opening and then open fully on Thursday, May, 19. From then the bar will be open Wednesdays to Sundays from 4pm.
There will be a happy hour every day from 4pm to 7pm and there will be DJs every Friday and Saturday. The launch of The Underdog comes five years after Kongs opened in Cardiff.
Kongs is an arcade bar with table tennis and retro arcade games, where guests can enjoy cocktails and craft beers while playing a range of retro arcade machines including pinball, Pacman and futsal. The business is hoping to grow in Cardiff and bring a "exciting new concept" with additions like The Underdog.
Kongs is open every day from 4pm to 1am Monday to Thursdays, 12pm to 2am Fridays and Saturdays and 12pm to 12am on Sundays. In October 2021 Kongs teamed up with West Pizza, who will also be serving pizza at The Underground, who had their own S4C show Pizza Boys.
The Underdog is not the only new venue set to open in Cardiff with a new south Indian restaurant opening on Albany Road and live music bar Buffalo is set to make a return. You can keep up with all the food and drink news by signing up to the newsletter here.
