Inside the private life of Una Healy from The Saturdays fame to Bed Foden divorce

Una Healy has been in the public eye for a number of years now and is one of Ireland's favourite celebrities.

Last night, it was revealed that she split from her Dublin-based Garda boyfriend after six months of dating.

She kept their relationship away from the public eye but Una's spokesperson confirmed: "Una is now single and no longer dating a member of the Garda."

The Irish singer rose to fame back in 2007 when she was in top girl band The Saturdays with Frankie Bridge, Rochelle Humes, Mollie King, and Vanessa White.

Since then she has married and divorced English rugby player Ben Foden, performed as a solo country singer and even took up presenting on RTE and Virgin Media.

So here’s everything you need to know about the Tipperary popstar:

What age is she and where is she from?

40-year-old Una Healy is from Thurles in Tipperary.

The Saturdays

The Saturdays were a hit band from 2007 to 2014 and they had several hits during their time including: I Just Can’t Get Enough, Higher and Notorious.

They toured with the likes of Girls Aloud and Boyzone before having their own reality show called Chasing the Saturdays on E! Network.

Una says that the group are still good friends and that she had the best time while she was a part of famous group.

Love life with Ben Foden

Una married the English rugby ace in 2012. The couple were together for 10 years in total before announcing their divorce in 2018.

The pair met after being introduced through Ben's agent.

Ben admitted that he first spotted Una on TV, telling Attitude magazine: "I'd been having lunch in a pub with my agent when he asked about my love life, and I was, 'Oh, non existent'".

"He asked if there was anyone I was thinking about, then The Saturdays popped up on the music channel in the corner, and I said, 'Oh, the one with the blue tights'".

"And the next thing I know, I've got a text saying, 'She's expecting your call'."

Divorce

The couple confirmed their split in 2018 after six years of marriage.

There were rumours that Ben had been unfaithful, which he later admitted.

He told The Guardian: "At the moment anything that’s published about me is never very good and pretty rightly so, because I was the one who committed adultery."

"But at the same time, it wasn’t the only reason for our divorce to go through.

"It’s not ideal but we’re very amicable, we’re getting through it.

"We’re not the first people in the world to get divorced. We’ve got two little kids we adore.”

Una has stayed relatively quiet about her divorce from Ben.

Speaking on RTE Radio One she said: “I get asked all the time about my personal life and the divorce and everything.

“It gets to the point where you’re asked so much that you just say ‘don’t talk about it any more’. I honestly don’t even want to talk about it. I’ve got to this point where I’m sort of exhausted from it.”

“There’s just so much more to life than dwelling on the past.

“We all just have to cope with whatever we’re dealt with in life. Things unexpectedly happen, and you have to deal with it. I just feel I’m in a place now where you want to move on and live in the present, and look forward to the future."

Does she have children?

Una and Ben had two children together – ten-year-old daughter Aoife and seven-year-old son Tadhg.

She claims that her son and daughter helped perk her up when she was feeling low about the end of the marriage.

Ben quickly moved on and announced his engagement to American socialite Jackie Belanoff-Smith.

He proposed just after two weeks of dating, married in 2019, and welcomed a daughter in May of 2020.

Life in Tipperary

Meanwhile, Una moved back home to Tipperary where she is delighted to have her family nearby.

She said the move home was the right decision and having her family close by during lockdown was a huge support.

She told the Irish Mirror: “My parents are next door so we move back and forth between both houses. I was all on my own in the first lockdown in the UK and it was very, very strange.

“I said to myself I couldn’t go through another lockdown on my own, but I always wanted to come back to Ireland anyway.”

Television

Once finished with the girl band, Una presented her own kids television programme on RTE called Una's Dream Ticket.

She then went on to be a judge on the Voice of Ireland in 2015 alongside Kian Egan, Bressie and Rachel Stevens.

Since, Una has gone on to present the Six O’Clock show.
