A hotel made entirely of ice has opened its doors, with everything from its bar to themed rooms such as an ice dome and a Japanese garden.
A team of sculptors and builders have just put the finishing touches on the famous Icehotel in Swedish Lapland, which is now in its 33rd iteration.
The majestic frozen establishment is arguably the most famous of its kind in the world, as the first, biggest and has been tipped as being the inspiration for the Ice Palace in James Bond flick Die Another Day.
The impressive structure is built from ice taken from the nearby Torne River which is then crafted into a temporary home before melting back into the water table in the Spring.
Artists from all over the world joined with salaried hotel construction workers to create 12 art suites, as well as well as one deluxe suite in Icehotel 365 - the year round hotel.
During the last intense weeks of building, 24 artists from around the world including one British designer together with the hotel's construction team and Creative Director Luca Roncoron, carved the establishment.
This year 500 tons of ice were used to build Icehotel 33 along with 10 Olympic swimming pools worth of a mix of snow and ice.
An impressive 200 handmade ice crystals were used to create the hotel's iconic chandelier.
All of this remains intact for several months by the frosty Lapland weather, which allows the hotel to keep at a balmy -5C inside.
From start to finish the hotel took six weeks to build.
“Every year I’m amazed of what this incredible team can achieve; talented international artists, flanked by a team of ice-professionals, can really create magic. Welcome to Icehotel 33,” said Luca Roncoroni, creative director of Icehotel.
The winter hotel will be open until April 2022 and Discover the World is offering a three night break from £504 per person this winter.
The price includes two nights warm accommodation and one night sleeping on ice in an Ice Room as well as breakfast each day.
You can also upgrade to an ice suite from £586 for the three night stay.
The construction process begins in the spring when blocks of ice are harvested from the mighty Torne River and stored in an ice warehouse in Jukkasjärvi, later to be used to create beautiful art and architecture.
What remains is the permanent part of the hotel, Icehotel 365, with an Icebar, a movie theatre and an exhibition made of ice and snow, as well as another nine art suites and eight deluxe suites and one design suite, one of which is new for the season.
