You would be forgiven for believing that Shania Twain resides in Nashville, the home of country music, or perhaps in her homeland, Canada. However, while she does have a property in Ontario – the singer primarily lives on the opposite side of the Atlantic – in Corseaux, Switzerland.
Shania's main home, which she shares with her husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, is picturesque enough to belong on a postcard – located on the fringe of Lake Geneva. It is perhaps unsurprising, therefore, that their yard is designed to maximize their waterfront views – featuring outdoor furniture (that creates a living room area), rose-filled flower beds, and a private port (naturally).
The singer (who also owns a farm in Las Vegas) keeps much of her family life private, but she has offered fans rare glimpses inside her Lake Geneva garden (below) – and garden trend forecasters say it's in vogue for summer 2023.
If our home overlooked a famous European lake, we, too, would create an outdoor living room as impressive as Shania Twain's. Complete with various neutral seats, an ottoman, and a large firepit atop a decking, this lounge area is perfect for day-to-night lounging and entertaining (and it deserves to be replicated far beyond Switzerland).
A day-to-night area such as this is among the top outdoor trends this year, according to landscape design firm Yardzen, who recorded their increasing popularity in their annual Outdoor Living Trends Report.
'One of the top requests amongst Yardzen clients is room to entertain, and among these homeowners, they want amenities in their yard that transition their outdoor spaces from day to night,' they say. 'This includes long dining tables for large groups, outdoor bars, pizza ovens, and heaters for memorable evenings under the stars.'
Most notably, they observed a 60 percent increase in outdoor lighting and a 56 percent rise in backyard firepits among clients.
'Fire pits have long been a favorite amongst Yardzen clients – almost 60 percent of Yardzen designs have a firepit in them,' they add. However, while fire pits remain a top request, they have similarly observed a rise in requests for 'outdoor fireplaces' – as 'more homeowners translate their favorite interior amenities to their outdoor rooms.'

We love this chair for its boxy, shape neutral-colored seat and comfy back cushions that are similar to those seen in Shania's outdoor living room.

This curved firepit comes with a modern ceramic top and polished surface – while its ceramic coasting brings an 'element of refinement' to your backyard.
