This is the barren bedroom, enclosed by a baby gate across the doorway, where five-year-old schoolboy Logan Mwangi spent the final days of his short life.
The sweet and loving schoolboy was "treated like a prisoner" as he was confined to his bedroom after testing positive for Covid-19 just days before he was murdered, Wales Online reported.
Logan’s mother Angharad Williamson, 31, of Lower Llansantffraid, Sarn, Bridgend, and stepdad John Cole, 40, of Maesglas, Ynysawdre, Bridgend, were today found guilty of his murder.
A 14-year-old boy - who cannot be named for legal reasons - was also convicted of murdering the five-year-old and perverting the course of justice.
Logan was found dead on July 31 last year in a river near his home in Bridgend.
Prosecutors alleged Logan had been subjected to a “brutal and sustained assault” prior to his death and suffered the kind of injuries usually seen in car crash victims before his body was dumped in the River Ogmore.
Pathologist Dr John Williams performed a post mortem on Logan on August 1, 2021, the day after his body was found.
He said there was "extensive deep scalp bruising" to the back of the head - and patchy "deep scalp bruising" to the left and right frontal scalp.
There was also haemorrhaging to the right side of the head and inside the skull. A separate examination of Logan's brain - which was carried out on August 25, 2021 - revealed "brain swelling, bleeding, microcalcification, and hypoxic ischemic brain injury".
During the trial Cole described how Logan had been kept in his room in the days before his death and was made to face the wall when anyone came in given he had tested positive for coronavirus. There was a baby gate barring him from leaving the room.
During her cross-examination of Cole prosecutor Caroline Rees QC suggested in the days leading to Logan's death the little boy was treated like a "prisoner" in his bedroom.
"Taking food to his room and making him face the wall as you put the food to the room," she said.
"You treated that little boy like a prisoner and in the week before Logan's death he was largely confined to the room and made to face the wall when food was delivered to him. How did you think that made that little boy feel?"
Cole replied: "We were trying our best we possibly could."
Williamson collapsed to the floor as the verdict was delivered, saying "no, no, no, no, no", with Judge Mrs Justice Jefford telling her: “For respect for your son and (the youth) please remain quiet.”
She had to be held back by court officers, shouting at Cole: “You lying motherf****** murderer, you lying murderer.”
The judge said only one sentence can be passed in each of the defendants’ cases - life imprisonment.
She told the killers her role is to set the minimum term, which will be announced at the sentencing hearing at a later date.
