Inside Liverpool's Wembley dressing room celebrations as Reds stars eye new trophy goal

Liverpool won the EFL Cup for a record ninth time on Sunday, as they defeated Chelsea on penalties following a goalless draw at Wembley.

The Reds ended a 10-year wait for domestic up success and celebrated accordingly, singing Gala's "Freed from Desire" in their Wembley dressing room after picking up the cup.

The Liverpool players and the backroom staff placed the famous three-handled trophy in the middle of the dressing room and danced around it as the iconic tune played.

Goalkeeper Adrian shared a close-up video of the team chanting the song and it's fair to say there were a few happy faces in the Liverpool camp.

The cup was then shared around the squad for each player to pose with - and Man of the Match Virgil van Dijk didn't disappoint.

Can Liverpool win the quadruple? Let us know in the comments below!

He was pictured holding the trophy in his left hand and the Alan Hardaker Trophy - awarded to the MOTM - in his right hand, with his newest medal dangling from his neck.

The winning players were also given commemorative t-shirts, which read "winners" and had the years of Liverpool's nine EFL Cup triumphs.

Manchester City's fourth consecutive victory last year meant they equalled the Reds' record, only for Jurgen Klopp's side to reclaim it just 10 months later.

Liverpool have previously won the EFL Cup in 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1995, 2001, 2003 and 2012.

Sunday's victory was particularly special for Jordan Henderson, who lifted a major trophy as captain for the first time at Wembley.

The England midfielder was part of the Reds squad that last won the EFL Cup in 2012 and celebrated by posting a picture of that triumph on Instagram, captioned: "10 years on..."

He followed it up with a picture from Sunday of him, the trophy and his good mate James Milner, who captained Liverpool after Henderson came off at Wembley.

The Reds skipper also shared a picture of youngster Kaide Gordon posing with the trophy on the plane back to Merseyside after doing so in the dressing room.

Sunday's victory was also sweet for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who's now won all four major honours.

He'd previously won three FA Cups at Arsenal before moving to Liverpool and lifting the Premier League, Champions League and EFL Cup.

"League Cup to complete the set," wrote Oxlade-Chamberlain on Instagram.

Milner enjoys a Ribena or two after winning finals but may have been forced to restrain himself after the win, as Liverpool are back in action on Wednesday evening.

Klopp's side take on Norwich in the FA Cup at Anfield, with their slim hopes of winning an unprecedented quadruple still alive.

"One down..." wrote Mohamed Salah on Instagram, suggesting Liverpool are after more.

The Egyptian later posted a picture of him recovering at the club's training ground, again hinting Klopp's players aren't getting carried away.

"Buzzing they're going to have to redecorate the Champions Wall again," wrote Milner on Instagram, referring to the artwork that celebrates the club's triumphs.

"Incredible celebrating with this group of people in front of the amazing travelling support."
