Inside Kevin Kilbane's fall out with Roy Keane after explosive press conference

Kevin Kilbane has opened up on how his relationship with Roy Keane came to an end and says he believes the Sky pundit would not acknowledge him if they came across each other.

Kilbane was in the Ireland 2002 World Cup squad alongside Keane and was speaking 20 years on from the infamous Saipan incident.

But Kilbane detailed the end of the relationship between the pair after appearing on media coverage after Keane criticised Irish players in the build-up to the 2016 European Championships.

Keane hit out at a number of players after Ireland's friendly clash against Belarus and said some players were 'very, very poor for international football."

And speaking to Off The Ball, Kilbane said he doubts Keane would acknowledge him if they came across each other.

He said: "I don't think he'd acknowledge me, that's probably what it would be. I think he would totally ignore me and everything that I have to say.

"I think there are a lot of players that are in that position. That is largely down to this, you are asking about Saipan and you are asking us to give our opinion on it and if we give our opinion on it..

"I gave an opinion on Roy once where I felt he was maybe a little out of order where he was talking to players prior to the 2016 Euros where he named the squad and Roy came out to name the squad and he was down in Cork where we played Belarus when the squad was announced.

"Roy criticised a few players and I was asked the question when I was on air and I said I can only imagine sat in the dressing room with Roy Keane if Ian Evans or Chris Hughton or Noel O'Reilly that I would have played under I could imagine what Roy what have been saying if those assistant managers would have been coming out criticising these players like he did and I said that.

"I said that I couldn't imagine any other assistant manager criticising players the way that Roy was criticising those players right now and I think he's wrong, I don't think he's right at all."

And Kilbane said that the comments marked the end of his relationship with Keane.

He added: "When you say things like that about him, the fire has been set. There's no comeback in Roy's eyes, you've criticised him and that's it. He won't talk to you again.

"I got a text message off him and that was it, it was pretty much the end of that relationship. "
