Inside former Premier League ace Jermaine Pennant's abandoned Cheshire mansion

Spooky photographs showing the fire-ravaged mansion of former Wigan Athletic and Liverpool star Jermaine Pennant have been shared by an urban explorer.

The £1 million home in Widnes, Cheshire, has lay abandoned since 2020 and in November of this year, firefighters were called to a second blaze in the space of a month at the building. Daniel Sims - known as Bearded Reality on social media - recently shared footage of the mansion on YouTube after reading about the property online, Liverpool Echo reports.

He visited the abandoned home with a friend four days after the most recent fire, on November 5, and commented that it was "pretty lovely, even though it has been set on fire." He added: "One of the great things is that there was a pool at the back, and you have low flying planes.

"This is something I was trying to capture on my video. These planes were flying low, so you can just imagine if you were Mr Pennant himself, coming out into a backyard and getting in your pools with the planes flying over.

Cheshire fire and rescue service report that they were called to a fire in the detached house on Hale Road on Tuesday, November 1. The ex-Liverpool FC player's former mansion was targeted by arsonists in October (Daniel Sims - known as Bearded Reality)

"The place is quite big as well, quite spacious. I would have liked to have seen that man cave in full swing."

Pennant played for 15 clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal, Wigan Athletic, Bury, Stoke City, Birmingham City, and Wolverhampton Wanderers, during a 19-year career. It is understand that he bought the Hale Road property for £1m in 2006 but that it has been abandoned since 2020.

The first fire at the mansion, on October 10, is being treated as deliberate and Detective Constable Rich Gray, of Widnes CID said that the address has "attracted a lot of attention". The property was subject of a drugs warrant carried out earlier this year when officers discovered a cannabis farm and seized multiple plants. A 35-year-old man was arrested and released on bail before being transferred to West Midlands Police.
