England celebrated their historic T20 World Cup win well into the early hours of the morning, with captain Jos Buttler leading the celebrations after they became the first men's team to hold both World Cup trophies simultaneously having also won the 50-over tournament in 2019.
England could not go too overboard though, as ten members of their World Cup-winning squad are due to be back in action on Thursday for the start of an ODI series against Australia and had to fly from Melbourne to Adelaide the day after the final.
However, they were still able to enjoy the moment with former England captain Michael Atherton writing in the Times that they did not even leave their dressing room at the Melbourne Cricket Ground until 1.30am, with management scrapping the usual midnight curfew.
Pakistan briefly joined them to congratulate them on their victory and the report states that Australia legend Mike Hussey, who was part of England's coaching staff, 'sang Barmy Army songs like an old hand'.
It also notes that white ball coach Matthew Mott and player of the tournament Sam Curran had a pre-tournament 'dare' where if England lifted the trophy, Mott would shave his head and Curran would have to dye his hair a colour of his coach's choosing.
Vice-captain Moeen Ali is said to have shaved Mott's head, prompting him to wear a sponsor's cap as he undertook his final media obligations of the tournament.
The squad's families also joined them in the dressing room to celebrate, before they headed back to their hotel on the team bus where Curran paraded the trophy and led his teammates in song.
The report adds that the majority of the team continued celebrating in the team room until around 7am, while Mott 'bailed out two hours before that'.
Tymal Mills also left the celebrations early, keen to catch a flight home and see his new baby Caelan who was born while he was away in Australia.
