Living in a closet-sized apartment would be horrible enough - but imagine paying $1,750 a month for the pleasure.
That's the situation a personal trainer living in New York City is facing in her tiny 80-square-foot-sized home, which still commands a staggering rental price.
"I'm basically living in an RV or van without wheels," said Nikki, who doesn't even have enough space for a proper bed in her cramped quarters.
While appearing on YouTube Caleb Simpson's video series, which he describes as "this generation's MTV Cribs", Nikki gives viewers a tour of her micro apartment.
"I can almost lay down the entire apartment," admits Caleb, who nearly manages to touch both walls at the same time.
While the exact neighbourhood is not specified, the apartment sits in the "heart of Manhattan".
First up on the very short tour is the kitchen and workspace-cum-bedroom area, which is only five steps long.
Nikki then shows off the "closet/bed", with a clever retractable shelf which hides all of her very neatly folded clothes.
When confused Nathan asks where the bed is, the personal trainer, pulls down the desk to reveal a bed which folds into the wall.
The 'living room' consists of a single chair and a blanket - but at least there's a sink, stove, microwave and multiple cupboards in the kitchen area.
Unfortunately, Nikki didn't realise she needed to buy special pots and pans for the modern hob for the first two years living there.
Nathan also gets a shock when she opens the tiny fridge - and Nikki admits all she really cooks is eggs.
A curtain can be pulled across to reveal a small area where she can actually hang up some clothes, but the rest need to be folded away incredibly neatly.
There is one feature that the apartment does have - its own bathroom.
Other tenants in the building have to use a communal toilet and shower area which is loud, has blinding lights and is incredibly narrow.
Nikki does have her own bathroom, which has a toilet and a shower, but she has to use the kitchen sink to brush her teeth and wash her hands.
While sitting on the toilet, Caleb opens the shower curtain and says: "Then there's the shower. The shower's actually a pretty decent size."
When asked why she lives there, Nikki explains: "I love micro-living because it's just simple. I like simplicity. It's also in New York City. It's just the greatest place on earth.
Her video has been watched more than 180,000 times - and many people in the comments section have claimed it's like a "prison cell".
"It's crazy that people actually live like this," wrote on person, while another added: "For $1k/month sure, but $1750, that's borderline robbery."
A third said: "I've seen better than this at this price. She got scammed."
While a fourth put: "The only crime here is that she's paying 1750 for it. There are tremendously more spacious, and face it, actual, apartments available in the City if she just looked. Not even talking about far off in the Bronx or Queens. Right near the action in Manhattan, but she's getting gaffled between the location and novelty of a micro apartment."
