Despite still only being 29, Declan Hannon has already etched himself into Limerick GAA history as a totemic figure having been captain during their current dominance of hurling.
With last year's triumph, he tied Cork icon Christy Ring in having skippered his county to All-Ireland glory three times.
And the centre-back will once again be a focal point of Sunday's battle with Kilkenny where they are fancied to win their third in a row, and fourth in five years.
Away from the pitch, he is engaged to Louise Cantillon. She is a presenter on Spin South West while he works as a healthcare recruitment manager.
The pair have been together since they were teens, having met at an underage disco.
Last December, he popped the question during a little getaway to the scenic spot of Slea Head beach in Dingle.
Sharing the happy news, Louise joked: "Extra sparkly sunrise ar Chom Dhíneol ar maidin…"
They own a house together in Limerick with Louise previously telling RSVP Live about how they ended up settling down there whilst so many of their peers went off travelling the world.
She said: "We finished college in 2015 and loads of our friends went to Australia for a year, then others decided to head off to Dublin and we found that we were the only two left in Limerick.
"GAA was tying us to the county and we were never going to move to Melbourne so we said, 'Let’s move to O’Connell Avenue!'
"And it’s been great, we have so many happy memories in this house."
Funnily enough, for as much as playing for The Treaty consumes his life, Declan isn't big on watching other matches as he'd rather switch off from the sport whenever possible.
This even applied two weekends ago when he opted to watch the Will Smith film 'King Richard', a biopic about Venus and Serena Williams' overbearing dad, rather than tune into Kilkenny's semi-final tussle with Clare.
He explained: “Maybe it’s strange in a sense, you think you'd be watching all the matches but I suppose you're nearly five nights a week at it anyway. It's kind of time to switch off when you're not involved."
