Inside Colin Farrell's private life as actor wins Golden Globe - relationships, children and net worth

Colin Farrell did Dublin proud on Tuesday night after winning Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes for his role in The Banshees of Inisherin.

The movie also won Best Screenplay for writer-director Martin McDonagh and Best Picture - Musical or Comedy. The black comedy was filmed on Inis Mór and Achill Island. Dublin star Farrell thanked the director and his co-star Brendan Gleeson in his acceptance speech.

"Martin McDonagh, I owe you so much, man," Farrell said, adding that the filmmaker "changed the trajectory of my life forever in ways that I, begrudgingly, will be grateful to you for the rest of my days".

Addressing Gleeson, Farrell said: "Brendan, I just, I love you so much. I love that I get to cohabitate this creative space with you every day. All I did when I came to work every day was aspire to be your equal."

The 46-year-old actor was once known as a bit of a wild man in Hollywood, however in recent years he has kept a very low profile. So who is Colin Farrell away from the cameras? Here is all we know about the actor's private life.

Early years

Colin Farrell was born on May 31, 1976, in Dublin, to his parents, Rita and Eamon Farrell. He grew up in Castleknock.

His father ran a health food shop and played football for Shamrock Rovers F.C. Colin has an older brother, Eamon, and two sisters, Claudine, who became his personal assistant in later years and Catherine.

His brother encouraged him to join The Gaiety School of Acting from where he dropped out after being cast in Irish TV show Ballykissangel. And so began his rise to fame.

Relationships and marriage rumours

As Colin became known as a Hollywood hunk, he was linked to several famous women. Before his big breakthrough in Steven Spielberg's Minority Report, he dated English actor Amelia Warner and the pair were rumoured to be married for four months.

However, Colin later dismissed the gossip, saying that the ceremony was not legal. He went on to date British writer Emma Forrest, and was later linked to major stars such as Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie and Demi Moore.

These days Colin keeps his relationships away from the spotlight. His most recent girlfriend was reported to be Kelly McNamara. The pair are believed to have been dating on and off since 2017, with the latest report of the couple being together in 2021.

Four years after his birth, Colin revealed that James was born with Angelman syndrome, a rare neuro-genetic disorder with symptoms including intellectual and developmental disability, seizures, jerky movements and sleep disturbances.
