Inside Bryson DeChambeau's feud with golf beauty Paige Spiranac ahead of Masters

It’s fair to say Paige Spiranac is not Bryson DeChambeau’s biggest fan.

For the last couple of years, the retired female golfer-turned-social media personality has been ripping into the 2020 US Open winner at every chance she gets. The 29-year-old can often be seen playfully taunting DeChambeau’s famously big ego on her social media channels and she has racked up millions of views in the process.

With so many colourful comments to choose from, there have been plenty of hilarious incidents to unpack. Here, Mirror Sport takes a closer look at their tongue-in-cheek tug-of-war.

“Bryson gets a lot of s*** and kind of deservedly”

Perhaps the funniest moment in the rivalry came after the often-formidable driver topped his tee shot on par 4 at the TPC at Sawgrass last year in Florida. DeChambeau shanked the ball a mere 96 yards much to the delight of Spiranac, who quickly tweeted: "I get so much joy from watching the best in the world hit hacker shots just like us."

Spiranac also made headlines when she trolled DeChambeau’s warm-up at the 2021 Masters, tweeting a 40-second clip of DeChambeau taking speed shots with the caption: “Less of this and more replaying the 2019 Masters,” – a highlight package that by this point had been on a constant repeat.

But she isn’t alone in poking fun at DeChambeau, as Spiranac rightly pointed out on Twitter, the golfing world hasn’t exactly warmed to him either.

“Tweets about Bryson are funny. It’s always, yes, he’s annoying and weird but he’s good at golf,” she said. “It’s never just something nice.”

Spiranac went on to add to this topic on her Playing a Round Podcast, stating: “Bryson gets a lot of s*** and kind of deservedly.”

Spiranac reignites feud ahead of 2022 Masters

Spiranac recently reignited her feud with DeChambeau by firing shots online ahead of this year’s Masters.

DeChambeau has never played his best golf at Augusta with his strongest finish being a tied 21st - and Spiranac has been revelling in this fact. On March 29, Spiranac tweeted: "Remember when Bryson called Augusta National a par 67. Good times."

That was a dig at DeChambeau’s comments in 2020, when he told the press: "I’m looking at it as a par 67 for me because I can reach all the par fives in two, no problem.

"If the conditions stay the way they are, that’s what I feel like par is for me." However, the world No.19 finished T34 that year and T46 in 2021.

“It’s fun to give Bryson s*** at times”

Despite all the taunting, Spiranac insists it’s nothing personal and has stated in the past that the Californian is just an “easy target”.

After DeChambeau won the 2020 US Open, the blonde beauty was one of the first people to sing his praises. Taking to Twitter, Spiranac tweeted: "It’s fun to give Bryson s*** at times but you have to give him so much credit for sticking to his guns despite all the hate and now he gets to call himself a US Open Champion.

“Well deserved win.”

The social media star even went on to pick DeChambeau to win the 2021 US Open, telling PointsBet Sportsbook through gritted teeth: “It makes me sick like I might throw up. It pains me to say this - my outright pick is going to be Bryson DeChambeau. Bryson DeChambeau is going to win the US Open at Torrey Pines because it favours bombers - and Bryson is a bomber. You need to hit it long and straight, and he does both of those things and I think it is going to give him a really big advantage when he’s coming into the greens with a shorter iron.”
