Inside 11-quarter high earnings pomp, 46 companies may wipe out up to 84% of their Q2 profits

At least 46 companies are expected to report a double-digit fall in net profit for the September quarter, even as the broader Q2 season is projected to be one of the strongest in several quarters. The divergence shows how uneven the earnings cycle remains. Motilal Oswal expects earnings for its coverage universe to rise 22% year-on-year (YoY) in Q2, the strongest growth in 11 quarters.

For the Nifty, earnings are expected to grow 27% YoY, the highest in 17 quarters, led by banks, NBFCs, metals, oil and gas, and telecom.
