Inquest opens after man found dead in plane wheel compartment at Gatwick

  • An inquest has opened into the death of an unidentified man found in the wheel compartment of a plane at Gatwick Airport.
  • The Air Arabia flight arrived at Gatwick from Tangiers in Morocco on 16 June 2026.
  • A post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death was cardiac arrest followed by hypoxia and hypothermia.
  • Sussex Police launched an investigation after a ground engineer discovered the body inside the landing gear compartment.
  • The inquest at Horsham Coroner's Court has been adjourned until 24 February 2027.
