Mystery continues to surround the cause of Channel 4 star Harry Savage’s death at a south west London home last month, as his inquest was formally opened on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old, who appeared on TV reality show Hunted in 2019, was found unresponsive at the property in Putney at around 9.15am on July 19.
The Metropolitan Police did not disclose details of the cause of death at the time, and said a man in his 30s had been arrested and bailed as enquiries continued.
At Westminster coroner’s court on Wednesday morning, Coroner Jean Harkin formally opened the inquest into Mr Savage’s death but said the cause of death is still not known.
“Mr Savage sadly died on July 19, 2024”, she said.
“I note we are awaiting documents - the post-mortem and toxicology reports – and also the police investigation report.
“I’m going to adjourn today’s opening and set a review date of October 28, 2024.”
During the five-minute hearing, the court was told Mr Savage had been identified by his driving licence by one of the police officers called to the scene.
His sister then carried out the formal identification process.
The court heard Mr Savage was born in Eastbourne, he was single, and worked as an events and marketing manager.
The hearing was also told that he was found dead at a two-bedroom flat inPutney, but his home address was given as a different property in Wimbledon.
Mr Savage, a former drama student, starred in Hunted alongside his brother and campsite owner Frank Savage.
Their mother died weeks before the show was recorded, while the boys’ father passed away years previously.
In his last Instagram post, Mr Savage uploaded an image of himself in Spain alongside the caption: “Ibiza, it’s been a minute.”
According to his social media page, he was in charge of partnerships at dating site Thursday.
One friend posted on social media: “What a sad day. RIP Harry Savage. One of the most beautiful souls on this earth. Rest well sweet angel.”
Another shared: “I am lost for words. Such a beautiful soul… one of the nicest guys I’ve ever had the privilege to know.”
In a statement after his death, Scotland Yard said: “Police were called by ambulance colleagues at around 09.15am on Friday, July 19 to a man unresponsive at an address in Putney.
“The 26-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“A post-mortem examination commenced on Saturday, July 20. Officers await the outcome of toxicology tests.
“Detectives responsible for policing Wandsworth are investigating the incident as an ‘unexpected death’.
“They remain in contact with the man’s family and will be supporting them as enquiries continue to establish the circumstances.
“A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.”
