Innovative modular homes arrive in Ayrshire as development progresses

An important milestone was reached this week as the first modules arrived for the six-home development at Afton Court, Stevenston, making up the first two homes.

The first two amenity bungalows, built by Connect Modular, part of The Wee House Group, are much-needed affordable and accessible houses in North Ayrshire.

The residents of Stevenston are enjoying seeing the progress of the affordable development, especially four-year-old junior apprentice Ellis.

A resident in Stevenston, Ellis attends the site most days with his mum, where he enjoys watching the diggers, tractors and cranes. He was delighted to see the first two homes being craned into position this week.

Richard Reid, Acting CEO, commented: “We’re delighted to have delivered the first two houses at this development for North Ayrshire Council. Delivery of the remaining four homes is scheduled over the next few months and we look forward to handing over the houses for occupancy this summer.”

Councillor Tony Gurney, cabinet member for place at North Ayrshire Council, added: “It’s wonderful to see the new homes being erected at Afton Court, Stevenston, bringing further modern and energy-efficient amenity housing to the area.

"The innovative process to build the homes in Connect Modular’s Ayrshire factory setting before being erected on site shows we are embracing new ways to deliver homes for our residents. And, by assembling the homes off site, it also means less disruption to neighbours.”

Connect Modular specializes in the provision of affordable modular homes for housing associations and local councils. They have just completed a 63-home affordable housing development in Dundonald South Ayrshire for Riverside Scotland and are currently working on a new 101-home project for Cunninghame Housing Association in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire.

All houses are constructed off-site in our Ayrshire factory where they are completed to ceiling height and pre-fitted with kitchens, bathrooms, plumbing and electrics. The houses are then transported to the site and craned into position for the final construction works to be completed.
