Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes has not been risked from the outset in Brazil's friendly with Ghana on Friday due to a thigh problem. The Magpies midfielder linked up with his international team-mates earlier this week but was forced out of training on Wednesday with a slight issue.
Newcastle's January addition needed special attention during a group session and is being treated at the team hotel, according to reports in Brazil. National boss Tite is likely to use most of his squad in the next week and the 24-year-old may yet feature against Tunisia on Tuesday - but tonight Guimaraes must settle for a place on the bench against Ghana.
The 24-year-old has stayed with Brazil and doesn't look set to fly home, unlike Alexander Isak who left Sweden's camp earlier this week after picking up a niggle. The former Lyon man has only just recovered from a hamstring problem picked up last month.
Eddie Howe only gave Guimaraes 72 minutes during the draw against Bournemouth on the player's Newcastle return last week. The boss admitted in his post-match press conference he only wanted to give the returning midfielder an hour but kept him on the pitch slightly longer due to the result.
"I was injured in the Man City game. I then tried to play in the Tranmere game," Guimaraes told ChronicleLive after the game. "When I needed to run, I felt it a lot. For me, I thought I was just tired and I didn't know I was even injured.
"After the Tranmere game, I spoke to the doctor and I wanted a scan. When we saw the scan we thought it (the injury) was small but it was big. When you are injured you are resting the muscle and it is always difficult to know what is happening. But now the most important thing is, I am fit."
