Injured Brown out of Bangladesh, but no Jonassen recall

Darcie Brown has made an 11th-hour withdrawal from the Australian squad to tour Bangladesh after being diagnosed with a navicular stress injury in her left foot.

Despite the injury, selectors have opted against recalling out-of-favour spinner Jess Jonassen for the multi-format series that begins in Dhaka next week.

As of Friday evening, Cricket Australia is unsure of fast-bowling Brown's return-to-play timeline.

Hard-hitting Queenslander Grace Harris replaces Brown in the ODI squad, having already been selected for the three-match T20 series.

Chief selector Shawn Flegler and coach Shelley Nitschke have opted not to add a new player to the T20 squad.

Heather Graham would have been a logical replacement as another right-arm quick on the fringes of the international set-up, but she is unavailable through illness.

Like Graham, Jonassen was overlooked in last month's squad announcement, having made the cut for every other tour since her international debut in 2012.

After Jonassen's axing, Flegler indicated she would be top of mind in the event of an injury.

But the 31-year-old will likely need to wait until at least a series against New Zealand, still yet to be formally announced, that is likely to be announced in the lead-up to this year's T20 World Cup.

The upcoming tour of Bangladesh will serve as vital preparation for the World Cup, which will be held in that country this September.

Australia have never toured Bangladesh for a bilateral series, last visiting in 2014 for their victorious T20 World Cup campaign.
