Ingrid joins Street Fighter 6 on May 28 as Year 3’s final DLC fighter

Ingrid is coming to Street Fighter 6 on May 28, closing out the game’s Year 3 character pass. She’s the fourth and final fighter in the lineup after Sagat, C. Viper, and Alex.

The release brings the end of one of Street Fighter 6’s more unusual DLC seasons. While Sagat is a series staple and his appearance was expected, Alex and especially Crimson Viper making it into the game before some of the fan favorites did raised some eyebrows.

Ingrid’s inclusion was even more questionable, as her fighting game history is much thinner than most post-launch Street Fighter additions. She first appeared in Capcom Fighting Evolution in 2004 and later showed up in Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX in 2006 before eventually coming to Street Fighter 6. So, 20 years with no major appearances.

The gameplay trailer Capcom released also confirms what some hardcore Street Fighter purists feared, as she throws any kind of grounded nature the series had its roots in out of the window. Ingrid is referred to as the “extradimensional woman of mystery,” as she weilds sunlight as projectiles and is able to, well, hop between dimensions.

Gameplay-wise, she looks to have a lot of mid-range pressure, fast movement that can be enhanced with teleportation, and projectile-absorbing powers, which she demonstrated well enough against JP in the trailer itself.

Ingrid will be available to players who own or buy the Year 3 Character Pass or Year 3 Ultimate Pass, as well as a stand-alone purchase. She launches with two costumes: a redesigned default outfit that enhances her weirdness tenfold, and her older purple school uniform. The Year 3 Outfit 3 set is also launching on May 28, and it contains additional skins for all the fighters in this pass.

Ingrid could also be a lore “crutch” for Street Fighter to be able to bring in guest characters that are not from our earth, as her interdimensional powers allow her to jump into any reality and summon characters that are from different worlds.

This is how Tifa Lockhart’s supposed appearance could be explained in-universe, if the recent leak that points to her being the Year 4 Pass guest character, along with Gouken, Haggard, and Vega, is to be believed.
