Free gifts were always seen as perks of the job for influencers, but reality could hit if they don't declare a "taxable benefit" says Taxback.com.
Many of us may be jealous of the freebies influencers receive as part of their job, but there could actually be a hidden cost. The warning comes as the online deadline for filing a tax return arrives today, November 16.
Social media influencers should check that they have "declared everything" when doing their returns. "Any clothes, cosmetics, food or other items they receive are a taxable benefit once the total value of the gifts received in a year from an individual brand exceeds €3,000," TaxBack.com consumer tax manager Marian Ryan explained.
