Indonesian Hospital In Gaza Under Israeli Fire, Patients Endangered

Israeli raid at Al Shifa hospital and the area around it, in Gaza City

The Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza was hit by Israeli artillery fire on Saturday, as reported by the enclave's Ministry of Health. The hospital's director confirmed that at least five shells struck the facility, causing significant damage. The attack occurred while more than 40 patients, wounded individuals, and medical staff were inside the hospital.

The Ministry of Health, which is controlled by Hamas, stated that the artillery targeted the hospital's upper floors, leading to panic among patients and staff. Additionally, a group of displaced individuals gathered in front of the hospital's gate were also reportedly targeted. The hospital is now facing a complete power outage, further complicating the situation.

In a distressing voice note sent to a source, Dr. Marwan Sultan, the hospital's director, emphasized the urgent need for assistance to protect the hospital and its medical teams. He highlighted that the ongoing shelling posed a serious threat to the patients and staff, with some individuals requiring critical care and oxygen support.

It was noted that last week, the Israeli military had ordered the evacuation of the Indonesian Hospital, along with two other hospitals in northern Gaza – Kamal Adwan and Al-Awda. This directive was issued by Doctors Without Borders and the health ministry in response to escalating tensions in the region.

Source contacted Israel's military for comment on the recent attack on the Indonesian Hospital, but no response has been received at the time of reporting. The situation remains critical as efforts are underway to ensure the safety and well-being of the hospital's occupants amidst the ongoing conflict.
