Two men indicted along with rapper Young Thug are awaiting a jury verdict in a high-profile case in Atlanta. One of the defendants, who raps as Yak Gotti, was reportedly stabbed in jail but is expected to appear in court on Monday, according to his attorney.
The defendants, Deamonte Kendrick and Shannon Stillwell, are facing charges related to gang activity, murder, drug offenses, and illegal possession of firearms. They were part of a group of 28 individuals indicted in May 2022 for allegedly conspiring to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
The legal proceedings have been ongoing for nearly two years, with jury selection commencing a year ago. In October, four of the defendants, including Young Thug (real name Jeffery Williams), pleaded guilty and the rapper was released on probation.
However, Stillwell and Kendrick opted to reject plea deals after lengthy negotiations. Their defense teams chose not to present any evidence or witnesses during the trial.
The jury began deliberations last Tuesday and continued for about six hours on Wednesday before breaking for the Thanksgiving holiday. They are set to reconvene on Monday to reach a verdict in the case.
