Indianapolis Colts sign RB Evan Hull from practice squad to 53-man roster

The Indianapolis Colts announced on Saturday ahead of their matchup with the Tennessee Titans that they have signed running back Evan Hull from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

The Colts still had an opening on the active roster after placing right guard Will Fries on injured reserve earlier in the week.

Hull was competing with Tyler Goodson over the summer for the third running back role on this team–a roster spot that would go to Goodson, who showed a bit more juice with the ball in his hands.

Hull averaged 3.1 yards per rush with a touchdown during the preseason and caught three passes for 17 yards.

With Jonathan Taylor sidelined last week, the Colts elevated Hull for the team’s Week 6 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars to provide depth as the third running back behind Trey Sermon and Goodson.

Hull did not see any snaps in that game, and I would imagine it’s similar this week with Sermon and Goodson handling the workload at that position.

Hull was a fifth-round pick by the Colts in 2023 out of Northwestern. His rookie year was cut short after he suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 1.

Hull averaged 4.2 yards per rush during his final year at Northwestern and made a huge impact in the passing game, leading all running backs during the 2022 season in receiving yards.

The Colts now have an opening on the practice squad.
