The Indianapolis Colts announced a practice squad addition on Tuesday, signing offensive tackle Mason Brooks.
The corresponding move in order to make room for Brooks is that the team also released defensive end Derek Rivers from the practice squad.
Throughout the season, the Colts have regularly churned the back end of their practice squad.
Brooks is listed at 6-6 – 315 pounds and went undrafted in 2023 out of Ole Miss. Brooks hasn’t appeared in any regular season NFL games, but he was on the Carolina practice squad earlier this season and spent his rookie year on the Washington Commanders practice squad.
Brooks played 2,188 college snaps, according to PFF. His first four college seasons were played at Western Kentucky and his final 2022 season at Ole Miss, where he was on the field for 113 offensive snaps.
During the 2021 season, where 1,052 of Brooks’ career snaps came, he played right tackle and allowed four sacks and 19 pressures in 775 pass-blocking snaps.
Here is a snippet of what Sports Illustrated’s NFL Draft Bible wrote in their draft profile of Brooks:
“Ideal build for a tackle. Long-limbed and angular physique that carries subtle mass in an athletic structure. Efficient mover in the run game with a propensity to climb to off-ball backers. An aware player that can handle extra bodies around him, late or boundary blitzes, and moving targets.”
Of note with this addition, Bernhard Raimann exited Sunday’s game with a knee injury. As of now, we don’t have any additional information about his availability this week.
While Brooks isn’t going to be expected to play by any means, his addition does provide depth in practice at the position.
