More than 58,000 Healthy Indiana Plan members are not currently showing compliance with, or an exemption from, the Medicaid work requirements the state will enforce starting January 1, 2027, the Family and Social Services Administration estimated on October 5. The rules require most HIP members ages 19 to 64 to log 80 hours a month of work, school or volunteering, or meet an earnings test.
The figure is rough, and that is the main point for families. FSSA's Sunshine Beam told WFYI that the count is based on income and eligibility checks, adding, "It's really sort of a guesstimate at this point." Some flagged members may already qualify but have not had their work or exemption recorded.
