With the men’s top leagues finding enthusiasm and commitment from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to be held even in the midst of a raging pandemic, the India Women’s League (IWL) has had to wait two years to find a place on the football calendar.
But with the Odisha government taking the onus of bringing back the premier women’s league in the country after a two-year disruption, the fifth season of Indian Women’s League (IWL) is set to kick off on Friday across three state venues – the Capital Ground, the 7th Battalion Ground and Kalinga Stadium – where 66 matches will be played between April 15 and May 26 with 12 teams having made their qualification.
