The victim has been identified as Kishore Gujarati. He was shot in Odivelas, a city in the Lisbon metropolitan region, and was taken for medical attention following the incident. Police have not yet released details on his current condition.

Law enforcement agencies have launched an urgent inquiry into the attack and are currently examining all possible motives. Investigation remains open and no conclusion has been reached regarding the circumstances behind the shooting.

The incident has also gained traction online after a video of the shooting went viral on social media platforms. In addition to the footage, an account using the name "Rahul RK Meena" allegedly posted a claim of responsibility for the attack and issued further threats of violence.

However, Portuguese police have not verified the authenticity of the post or confirmed any link between the account and the shooting.

In Ireland, multiple documented assaults on Indian-origin residents occurred since last year, including a 6-year-old girl in Waterford who was racially abused and physically attacked, and a 40-year-old Indian man in Dublin who was assaulted by a group of teenagers; Irish police confirmed investigations and arrests in some related cases. In another Dublin case, an Indian-origin man was severely beaten and robbed, with Gardaí later making arrests and treating it as a violent assault.
