A team at the Indian Naval Academy has developed a two-drone system designed to assist maritime search and rescue operations by combining aerial surveillance with the delivery of lifebuoys. The system uses one autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to detect people in the water and a second to carry a lifebuoy to the identified location, offering rescuers a way to respond more quickly to emergencies at sea.
Speaking exclusively to ANI, Midshipman Sudhanshu Tanwar, one of the developers, explained that the two UAVs coordinate through long-range radio frequency (RF) communication. The system combines camera-based surveillance, artificial intelligence-assisted detection and GPS-guided flight, while retaining human control over the final lifebuoy release.
