Indian man arrested in Texas after attacking woman and biting her child; student visa was revoked in 2025

A 24-year-old Indian man, Atharva Vyas, has been arrested for assaulting a mother and her three-year-old daughter in a park in San Antonio, Texas. ICE has issued a detainer against the man which means after his proceedings with the law enforcement is over, he will be taken into ICE custody and sent back. The department said they revoked Vyas's student visa in 2025 because of his past criminal record and he has been living in the US illegally.

Gabriella Perez and her daughter faced Vyas's unprovoked attack on April 18 at around 3 pm. The mother was walking in the park carrying her child when Vyas allegedly grabbed Perez by the hair causing her to fall and drop the child. According to the San Antonio Express News, while she was on the ground, Vyas assaulted the child causing serious bodily injury. When cops arrived, they found Vyas was restrained by a witness who intervened after seeing the attack.
