Indian-American Ajay Bhutoria appointed to California regulatory board

Washington: Indian-American Ajay Bhutoria has been appointed as a public member of the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists, a regulatory body in the state.

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Bhutoria's appointment to the post on Wednesday; the position does not require confirmation by the state Senate.

The Board, operating under the California Department of Consumer Affairs, safeguards life, health, property, and public welfare by setting licensure standards and regulating the practice of engineering, land surveying, and geology across the state.

According to a statement from Newsom's office, Bhutoria, the Founder and Principal at Global Business Consulting Services, also served as a Commissioner on President Joe Biden's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders from 2021 to 2024.

Bhutoria earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli.

A resident of Fremont, Bhutoria brings two decades of enterprise technology leadership, software architecture expertise, and high-level public service to the Board.

"I am deeply honoured by Governor Gavin Newsom's trust and confidence in appointing me to this important state board," Bhutoria said.

"I look forward to bringing my expertise in enterprise AI, emerging technologies, and process optimisation to the Board to help reform, streamline, and modernise system processes," he added.
