India win 2 silver, a bronze in Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting C'ships

NEW DELHI: India's weightlifters, Sanapathi Guru Naidu and M Tomchou Meetei, made their nation proud by securing silver and bronze medals in the 55kg men's youth category at the Asian Youth (boys and girls) and Junior (men and women) Weightlifting Championships held in Greater Noida.

Adding to India's success, Mukund Santosh Aher also showcased his strength and skill, securing a silver medal in the 55kg Junior category. The competition, which takes place from July 27 to August 5 at the Gautam Buddha University, witnessed fierce competition from athletes representing 18 Asian countries.

In the men's 55kg youth category, the gold medal was claimed by Vietnam's K Duong, who is also the World Record holder in the weight class. Meanwhile, in the men's 55kg junior section, Vietnam's Tu Tung Do clinched the gold, and Tuan Kiet Duong secured the bronze medal.

The championships feature a rigorous format, with medals awarded in three categories: snatch, clean and jerk, and total weight lifted. With 220 athletes competing in both youth and junior categories, the event is a testament to the growing prominence and talent in weightlifting across Asia.

India's weightlifters' outstanding performances reflect their dedication and hard work, and they have certainly made their mark on the prestigious Asian weightlifting stage.
