India weather (October 4): Rain, thunderstorms forecast in several parts; check IMD's forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across several parts of the country, including Kerala, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and parts of southern India are also likely to receive rainfall over the coming days.

While several states are expected to witness wet weather, Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh are likely to remain largely dry. Rainfall activity is forecast to return to parts of northwest India between October 5 and 7.

Delhi-NCR weather forecast

Delhi is likely to witness dry and sunny weather, with no significant rainfall expected. Winds may blow at speeds of around 20-22 kmph.

The dry conditions are expected to continue over the next few days. However, the IMD has forecast isolated to scattered rainfall over Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh on October 6 and 7.

Uttar Pradesh weather forecast

Uttar Pradesh is likely to remain dry, with no significant weather activity expected across the state.

According to the IMD's latest warning bulletin, no weather warnings have been issued for eastern or western Uttar Pradesh for October 4 to 9. There is also no warning of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall or other severe weather conditions for Saturday.

Rain forecast across India

While much of north India is expected to remain dry, several other regions are likely to experience rainfall and thunderstorms over the coming days.

Odisha is likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall, with wet conditions expected to continue until October 7. Bihar and Jharkhand may also witness isolated to scattered showers from October 5.

In the Northeast, thunderstorms and lightning are likely in parts of the region, with isolated heavy rainfall possible over Arunachal Pradesh. Rainfall activity is expected to persist across the region until October 7.

Chhattisgarh, Konkan and Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra are also likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall through October 7.

Kerala is expected to experience thunderstorms, moderate rainfall and gusty winds during the ongoing spell, although rainfall activity may gradually decrease over the next couple of days.

Northwest India weather forecast

The IMD has forecast a fresh spell of rainfall over parts of northwest India between October 5 and 7.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may receive showers during this period. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad are likely to witness isolated to scattered rainfall on October 6 and 7.

No weather warnings have been issued for Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir or Ladakh for October 3 to 5. However, Himachal Pradesh is likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning on October 6 and 7.

South India weather forecast

Rainfall activity is expected to continue across parts of southern India, with Kerala and Mahe likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread showers through October 7.

The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Kerala and Mahe between October 4 and 6. South Interior Karnataka may also receive isolated heavy showers on October 5.

Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely over parts of southern India. Strong surface winds are also forecast over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema during the October 2-5 period.

Monsoon withdrawal update

The southwest monsoon is currently in its withdrawal phase, with the IMD expecting further withdrawal from parts of north and central India. However, rainfall activity is likely to continue over several parts of southern, eastern and northeastern India.

For Delhi, the immediate forecast indicates largely dry conditions, although the possibility of rainfall increases around October 6-8.
