India vs England, 3rd Test: Sarfaraz Khan is hungry for runs, says Rohit Sharma

RAJKOT: Soon after Sarfaraz Khan rounded off his perfect, long-awaited Test debut with two fifties to play a key role in India’s lop-sided win over England in the third Test at the Niranjan Shah Stadium here, the 26-year-old won lavish praise from Indian captain Rohit Sharma, a fellow Mumbaikar.

Rohit admitted that he hadn’t seen much of Sarfaraz before the youngster ended up playing for India, but admired his hunger for runs.

“I haven’t seen Sarfaraz bat that much. But all the people I’ve heard from, the players who are from Mumbai, (that) he’s made runs in a lot of difficult situations for Mumbai. He’s hungry for runs and for the last 4-5 years, he’s continuously made runs in domestic cricket, so (that means) he’s doing something good,” Rohit said.

It helped Sarfaraz mentally relax that the Indian team management didn’t give him any instructions on his debut.

“We didn’t discuss any plans with him. Because I know that if you let him be, he’ll do his your job, which I’ve heard from the players from Mumbai,” Rohit said.
